Singing the Blues from Alice's Restaurant?
Yikes - live entertainment in a pleasant atmosphere?
I was surprised when we stopped by the Flowery Trail Coffeehouse (formerly Lorraine's Coffeehouse at 211 E. Main) last Friday evening to hear local and visiting musicians jam the night away in the most pleasant of settings Chewelah has to offer. And I thought that Squalor's Pork Barrel Cafe was the Cultural Centre of Stevens county!
As it turns out, I may have overlooked the competition. The Flowery Trail Coffeehouse, operated by Doug and Sally McQuain features live entertainment every Friday evening from 6:30 to 9:00 alternating between jam sessions hosted by Spectra and open microphone nights. I have pledged not to read Beat poetry during the open mic nights in exchange for a reserved sidewalk seat.
You can't get anything you want, but the Flowery Trail Coffeehouse offers unique gifts, used books, art and music in an appealing setting.
Spectra's
performances at our annual Chataqua Festival over the years have been
unique and exceptional. Spectra exemplifies some of our region's finest
talent, and Community Celebrations welcomes Spectra to perform each
year they are available.
REVIEW:
The
Nov. 23, 2000, edition of The Chewelah Independent:
"Lorraine's
Coffee House bistro (now Flowery Trail Coffee House) opened it's charming Main Street venue for an evening
of jazz and blues provided by Spectra. Soft lighting and the intimate
atmosphere were just right for the warm vocal and piano stylings of
Doug McQuain. Sally grooves the upright bass, and Lynn Miner showed
creative versatility that set toes tapping. Altogether, it was a remarkable
evening, thoroughly appreciated by the 50 or so people who dropped in
to listen and interact with Spectra."" --Community Celebrations/Chewelah
